I will be honest, I am not a musky fisherman but is 11lbs of drag of the $160 model or the 15lb drag of the more expensive other two version enough for you?I consider 20lbs of drag a lot of resistance for larger gamefish. The Curado's drag is far short of that. If you are going to spool with 50lb braid wouldn't you want a drag that can attain at least half that strength? I'm not criticizing, just curious.

Both are my go to brands but honestly give the curado a go you will not be dissappointed...the reviews do not lie...there are alot of anglers that stick with "there brand" and thats fine...

I LOVE the Curado and the new versions are supposedly even more durable. I assume you are using this reel for freshwater fishing but the older version holds up okay in salt as well.I know Diawa is really stepping it up as far as higher end products but Shimano wrote the book on smooth operating, long lasting reels.

No, it does not. My suggestion is hopefully not an insult to your intelligence. In order to keep your spool from backlashing you have two options: 1: tighten up the tension knob until it barely lets line free or 2: keep your thumb on the spool once you disengage the reel (click the casting thumbbar).I would not let this concern keep you from purchasing this reel. As far as I know there are no low profile baitcasting reels that have a reverse.

No. U put your thumb on the spool and release the line with thumb tension. If you are trying to reach certain depths you need a reel that counts feet. This is not a trolling reel. Its a casting reel. And a very very good one at that.Details:

No. The 200E7 is a 7:1 (fast retrieve) and the 50E is 6.4:1 (medium retrieve) with less line capacity and. In addition, I believe both these models are being retired in 2011. The new models (200G...) are out but BP only has the 200G6 in stock. I will be buying the 200G5 and 200G7 as soon as they arrive.A:
It is not the same reel. I own both models and both are good reels. The difference is the 50 is smaller and holds less line. It's fine for most bass fishing applications and I don't have to use backing with the 50's.

Nope it is not the same reel. The 50 series is even smaller then the 200, weighs less and has less line capacity. Everything else remains the same

No, they are different. The 50E is lighter, smaller and has less line capacity than the 200E. The 50E is better at casting lighter baits due to its lighter spool.Details:
im new to fishing with braid. i have 3 curado's and only have used flourocarbon and they work great but with braid i cant cast at all! i put suffex 832 10# on it and im not sure why it cant cast half as good as flourocarbon. Is it because 10# braid is actually 4# flouro and the reel is made for 12# test or does suffex 832 just suck?Answers

The composition of braided line is going to cause some degradation when casting. Never used suffex 832 but i do have braid on some of my Curados. One tip I received was to make sure i keep a fuller spool when using braid as opposed to flouro. Normally I am using braid when casting into heavy cover (weeds, trees, grass, etc) so I don't need to get max cast length like i do when I am throwing jerk/swim/crank baits with flouro.A:

As stated before, 10lb braid is way too thin. Not only does it dig it self in, but it snaps way too easily. I wouldnt use anything under 50lb test, which is usually around a 10lb test diameter. I had 50lb (12lb equivalent) suffix 832 on for a while just to try it out, but I recently switch back to my 70lb Daiwa Samurai which is also equivalent to 12lb test. I liked the suffix 832, but I really like the Samurai braid!

10# test is too thin. It digs into the spool. I have tried 15# p.pro and it is the same case. Try something in the 20-40# range. I personally do not fish braid in casting setups less than 50# test. I have fished with people that are convinced that there is no reason to fish less than 60# test braid. You will have to find your own comfort with this stuff in accordance to what type of fishing you are doing obviously.I love braid on my spinning setups. Fluoro is the way to go on casting.

Not 5.0:1 but they do have a 5.5:1. You would be looking for a 201E5 (old model) or 201G5. Curados use the following model numbers:200 series:
200 = Right hand
201 = Left hand
E = old model
G = new model
5 = 5.5:1
6 = 6.4:1
7 = 7.1:1

There are many types of Shimano Curados. Which one out of these is better, and lasts longer, or is there any difference in quality. My question is if there is a difference in these curados, which one is best. 200e, 50e, or the 200g.Answers

The E's are the old models, The G's are the models (fewer bearings, smaller body, more line cap, lighter). My E's have lasted for years. Going to buy a G as soon as BP has some. You just need to decide what retrieve you prefer:5.5 = 23" per crank (E5, G5)
6.4 = 27" per crank (E6, G6)
7.1 = 30" per crank (E7, G7)
200 = Right Hand
201 = Left Hand

I have both the 200e and 50e models. I prefer the 200e because I have big hands. If you have small hands, the 50e might be best for you.

Think they are discontinuing the 200e, so your choice would be the 200g, its replacement. Sweet reel, the curado. Put one on your rod and make the decision yourself. I never buy a reel unless I have it on a rod to check balance, feel, etc.

The 50e is the lightest and smallest at 6.9 oz. With its smaller spool it holds 85 Yards of 12lb test. The lighter and smaller spool makes it easier to cast lighter baits.The 200e Is slightly heavier and larger at 7.6 oz. It has a larger line capacity and holds 110 yards of 14lb test and 155 yards of 10lb test.
The 200g is Shimano's newest series of the Curado. It is slightly lighter than the 200e weighing in at 6.9oz, but has the same line capacity. These reels are expected to be available from late summer to early fall.
The E series and previous curado models have proven themselves to last. Only time will tell if the new G series will hold up against its predecessors, but id bet that they will.

Shimano is the best baitcast reel brand on the market. The only baitcast I have used that compares are the Lews reels. BPS are just fine but if you are going to spend the money why not buy a reel from a reel manufacturer?? I have curados and they are absolutely amazing. BPS is not comparable, I have them too.A:

The Johnny Morris Gold and Signature series reels are the smoothest reels I have used on both the cast and retrieve. I can get the same distance on both my curado 200e7 and my Johnny Morris, but the curado takes less effort. Allthough I love and use both reels almost daily, I feel the Johnny Morris out performs the Curado on those really windy days.Answers

Yep, I have a left hand retrieve. All models ending with a #1. Is left hand. I personally own the 201e, and let me tell you it is a great reel.

You are referring to the 'E' Series. the new Curados are the 'G' Series. Although I don't see how they could have improved the Curado, they did. Get you some!

My understanding is that the Curado E series is being discontinued in preparation for the next Curado model. For example, I have an older Curado Bantam that was discontinued to make way for the next version. I cannot imagine Shimano stopping the Curado line completely since it has a huge following.A:

Rumor has it that they will be replaced with something new. Youll probably have to wait until ICAST to know for sure. There is a teaser pic of a new shimano reel, but its anyones guess as to which model it is. The curado 200's are going on sale everywhere, so my guess is that its going to be replaced.
